LEH, September 27: Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve chaired a meeting today to discuss arrangements for the massive cleanliness drive set to take place on October 1, 2023.
This event marks the culmination of nine years of relentless efforts under the Swachhata Abhiyan.
Executive Officer, Municipal Committee, Leh, Stanzin Rabgais gave an overview of the cleanliness drive.
Deputy Commissioner, Leh informed that the grand initiative will see the Lieutenant Governor, UT Ladakh flagging off the drive.
He also added that the focus of this mega cleanliness drive is to transform Leh into an example of cleanliness and hygiene. It was also informed that various organisations will actively participate in organising cleanliness drives across the region. Also, informed that they have identified 13 different areas in 13 wards of Leh.
He directed all the concerned officers to completely avoid plastic, highlighting the commitment to environmental sustainability.
Further, DC Leh informed that Municipal Committee Leh will supply all the necessary cleaning materials and tools to facilitate these efforts.
Additionally, the cleanliness drive will cover Gram Panchayats and tourist places. This extensive campaign is set to cover 95 Panchayats in total, ensuring that no area in Leh remains untouched.
The meeting was attended by District Panchayat Officer, Leh; Assistant Director, DIPR, Leh and Executive Officer, Municipal Committee, Leh. Besides, other stakeholders including President, All Ladakh Tour Operators Association (ALTOA), Leh; President, Merchant Association, Leh; President, Hotel Association, Leh; President, Transport Union, Leh; President, Bus Union, Leh; President, Taxi Union, Leh; President, Bikers’ Association, Leh; President, Tempo Association, Leh and President, Truck Union, Leh were present during the meeting.
