𝐊𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐮𝐚 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐬, 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲𝐨𝐟𝐉𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐮 𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐬 ‘𝐈𝐏𝐑𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞’

JAMMU, February 06: In order to aware and sensitize the students pertaining to Intellectual Property Rights, Department of Computer Science & IT, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu in association with Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trademarks, Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India organized an informative webinar on “Intellectual Property Rights” under National Intellectual Property Awareness Mission (NIPAM). Ms. Prachi Prateeti, Examiner of Patents and Designs, DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, New Delhi was the resource person. The webinar was attended by more than 100 participants across the nation.

Ms. Prateeti while addressing the participants, highlighted the importance of Intellectual Property (IP)to enhance creativity, innovation, research, competitiveness and economic growth of the nation. She enlightened about various facets of IPRs including patents, copyrights, trademarks, industrial designs, and geographical indications and gave insights on various aspects of registering them. She mentioned endless examples of patents that are currently being used in different sectors right from agriculture to the high-end industries. Briefing about the nuances of IP laws applicable in India, she emphasized upon the advantages of protecting IPRs and suggested the participants to take maximum benefit of the Intellectual Property Rights.

Dr. Meenakshi Kilam, Rector, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu in her message expressed the requirement of awareness regarding IP rights in contemporary times and said the webinar would benefit the campus along with the participants in their future endeavours as innovators. Further, she highlighted the inevitable role of Intellectual Propertyforaugmenting the socio-economic expansion of the nation and thereby, contributing to Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign of India. She concluded by suggesting the youth to take lead towards the new initiatives of the Government of India like Startup India along with transforming the innovative ideas into intellectual property.

Dr. Sourabh Shastri, Organizing Secretary of the webinar and Incharge Head (Computer Science), Kathua Campus, University of Jammu thanked the resource person for sparing her time to indulge in the fruitful interaction with the participants and said the students need to be aware of the creation and preservation of their ideas.
