1st consignment of Winter Fresh Vegetables supply flagged-off
LEH, Feb 2: The first consignment of Winter Fresh Vegetables supply, procured by the Cooperative Department, UT Ladakh in collaboration with various cooperative societies, was flagged-off by Executive Councilor, Ghulam Mehdi and Secretary, Cooperatives, Ravinder Kumar in presence of Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Shrikant Suse from the Agling Cold Storage, Leh today.
The first consignment of eight tonnes of fresh vegetables for Leh district was flagged-off for further distribution in Khaltse and Kharu sub-division in equal quantities of four tonnes.
EC Ghulam Mehdi added that the Cooperatives Department through its Cooperative societies have supplied fresh vegetables in winters to the public in the past and continues to do the same at affordable rates.
He added that in the coming days fresh vegetables would be supplied and disturbed in Nubra, other areas and in and around Leh city too.
Secretary Ravinder Kumar shared that 16 tonnes of fresh vegetables per consignment will be airlifted twice a week with eight tonnes each for Leh and Kargil districts respectively which would cover the remote areas in the first instance and subsequently to all other areas till opening of the highways.
He added that the aim is to supply fresh and quality vegetables/fruits in the winter months to the public at nominal rates in 3kg combos to each household in a phased manner.
Facilitating the access to fresh vegetables/fruits at reasonable rates, he added that the Department has devised a systematic plan to distribute the fresh vegetables covering all the areas.
Additional Registrar Cooperatives, UT Ladakh, Moses Kunzang; Deputy Registrar Cooperatives, Leh, Dr Mohd Abbas; Assistant Registrar Cooperatives, Leh and other concerned officers/officials and members of Cooperative societies were present on the occasion.
