2 Day International Conference Concludes in CUJ

Jammu, 03 March 2024: Department of Zoology, Central University of Jammu, organised two-day International Conference on advances in biological sciences for sustainable development ICABSSD – 2024 in the academic block of Central University of Jammu.

The mega event was attended by renowned scientists, academicians, entrepreneurs and industrialists across the country and abroad. The inaugural session of the conference was graced by Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Central University of Jammu.

Prof. Manoj Dhar, Director, AcSIR was the Chief guest of the inaugural session while Prof. Bechan Lal, Vice Chancellor, Cluster University of Jammu was Guest of Honour .

Dr. Ashok Yadav the convener of the conference gave an overview of the conference emphasizing on the importance of sustainable development in the world of biological and technological advances. Due to the large number of participants, the conference proceedings were carried out in three parallel technical sessions.

The technical sessions comprised the keynote talk delivered by Prof. Manoj Dhar, Director AcSIR on tackling global hunger through technological interventions in world food production.

Second Keynote Speaker was Prof. Noga Kornfield – Schor from Faculty of Life Sciences at Tel Aviv University, USA. Professor Noga elucidated the impact of light pollution on various species during her discourse.

Other eminent speakers of the sessions included Dr. Roee Gutman Department of Nutrition and Natural Products, MIGAL, Galilee Research Institute, Israel, Prof. Akhil Gupta, SKUAST, Jammu, Dr. Raghav Mishra, BHU Varanasi, Prof. B.K. Bajaj, University of Jammu, Dr. Felix Bast, Central University of Punjab, Prof. Santashree Banerjee, Jilin University, China, Dr. Suresh Kumar Yadav, GNDU, Amritsar, Dr. Ramchandra Bhaskaran, Chief scientific officer and Lab director from Nucleome Informatics Pvt. Ltd. Dr. Shashank Maurya, BHU, Dr. Himanshu Yadav, BHU, Dr. Vikas Babu, IIIM, Dr. Vinay Kumar Singh.

On Day 2 of the conference the three technical parallel sessions began with keynote lectures on various fields of expertise. The keynote speakers were Prof. Bechan Lal, Vice Chancellor, Cluster University of Jammu who delivered a talk on fish endocrinology.

Prof. Kevin Lin, from the USA delivered a talk on Neurology. Other invited speakers were Prof. Neera Tiwari Singh from Michigan State University, USA, Dr. Ashish Dwivedi, from Michigan State University, USA, Dr. Ratnakar Tripathi, from Columbia Missouri, Prof. Singaravel from BHU, Prof. S K Jha from JNU, Prof. Ranjit Kumar, Central University of Nagaland, Prof. Bikash Mehdi, PGIMER, Chandigarh, Dr. Ashish Tyagi, Texas, USA and Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, BHU.

A total number of 120 oral and poster presentations were delivered by the participants from various universities across India in the conference.

The chief guest of the valedictory session was Prof. Kuldeep K Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Himalayan University, Itanagar and Ashutosh Mukherjee fellow of ISCA and the guest of honour was Prof. S K Jha, School of Life Sciences, JNU. The Convener of the conference read the conference report. The best young scientist awards in oral and poster presentations were announced in the valedictory session and were distributed by the chief guest, Prof. Kuldeep K Sharma. The conference proceedings culminated with vote of thanks by Dr. Stanzin Ladol and formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Dhanananjay Kumar, Co-convener of the conference.

The overall program was successfully organized by the organizing secretary of the conference, Dr. Shvetambri Jasrotia and the organizing team Dr. Vinita Sharma, Dr. Stanzin Ladol, Dr. Dilip Mansotra, Dr. Khushaal Kumar, Dr. Nidhi Slathia, research scholars, Mr. Yogesh, Mr. Tundup, Ms. Anchal Chib, Ms. Shaveta Padha, Ms. Nitika Mehra, Mr. Ashutosh and Mr. Rohit.
