2-Day Pashu Mela concludes at Lakhanpur
Vice Chancellor SKUAST Jammu Commends Department’s Initiatives
KATHUA, FEBRUARY 17: The two-day Pashu Mela, an exhibition showcasing a variety of livestock and animal products, marked a significant milestone at the Rinderpest check post of the Animal Husbandry Department- Lakhanpur.
Vice Chancellor of SKUAST Jammu, Dr. B N Tripathi, graced the occasion with his presence and lauded the department for its commendable efforts in promoting best practices within the livestock sector.
The primary objective of the livestock Mandi was to boost trade in livestock and related products within the region. Dr. Tripathi, in his address, emphasized the pivotal role of the livestock sector in bolstering the rural economy. He expressed optimism that the event would serve as a one-stop platform for the farming community to access high-quality livestock within Jammu and Kashmir, thereby promoting growth in the dairy sector.
Dr. Shubhra Sharma, Director of the Animal Husbandry Department, Jammu, highlighted the broader objectives of the event. She emphasized the importance of creating awareness about modern animal husbandry practices and fostering employment opportunities for the people in the region.
This year, the department organized a total of four Pashu Mandis, resulting in the purchase of 1445 animals by farmers under the Integrated Dairy Development Scheme (IDDS).
The event witnessed the presence of other notable officers such as Dr. Yugal Kishore, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, and Dr.p Vishal Mahajan, Head of KVK Kathua.
