2 smugglers held with 54 wooden logs in Kishtwar
KISHTWAR, 25 January 2024: In a proactive move to combat illegal timber activities, Kishtwar Police, under the directions of SSP Khalil Poswal-JKPS, based on specific information, police party, led by PSI Pintu Raina of Police Post Jawalapur executed a raid at the suspected location and apprehended Shabir Ahmed and Mohd Imtiyaz, both sons of Ghulam Malik, residents of Sarpan Devigool area in Jawalapur, Kishtwar.
The duo was caught red-handed engaging in the illegal extraction of timber by cutting down green standing trees in the forest area of compartment number 46/BH Jawalapur. Total 54 wooden logs, believed to be intended for illegal sale, were seized from the site.
Following the operation, both accused individuals have been taken into custody. The seized logs have been secured as evidence. In this regard, a case, FIR number 30/2024, U/Sec. 379/427/IPC and 26 Forest Act have been registered at Police Station Kishtwar, and an investigation taken up.
