5 DLs & 5 Permits suspended for traffic violations by MVD Anantnag

7 Vehicles seized without Registration Numbers; Show-Cause Notices issued to Trade Holders for Violation

ANANTNAG, NOVEMBER 24: To send a strong message to traffic violators, MVD Anantnag as part of its continued enforcement drive across district laid multiple nakkas on Wanpoh Highway, Pazalpora-Bijbehara Highway, Zirpara Market and later on Bijbehara-Pahalgam Road.

Of 160 vehicles checked in total, 40 Challans were issued on spot, mainly falling under Without Helmet, Tempered Speed Limiting Devices, Without Seatbelt, Dangerous Driving etc. Fine to the tune of Rs 80000 is expected to be realised from the violators.

The enforcement team was headed by Assistant Regional Transport Officer Anantnag, Dr Mohammad Zubair Lattoo assisted by MVI Mushtaq Ahmad, MVTA Firdous Ahmad.

Dr Zubair said during the drive it was found that minors were involved in performing wheelies and dangerous driving and each vehicle owner has been slapped with a fine of up to Rs 1000 to 5,000 at first instance. 5 DLs have also been suspended and depending upon the nature of the offence, the suspension for DL will be for a period ranging from 3 months to 6 months.

The majority of the licences for suspension were involved in dangerous driving and they were repeat offenders. In case the owners are found driving or riding the vehicle during the suspension period, the penalty will be doubled, Dr Zubair said.

During the checking it was also found that some Dealers were found violating Trade rules and had allowed vehicles to come from their Showrooms without Registration Mark which is a serious offence. As many as half a dozen of such vehicles were found on roads and were seized under relevant laws.

He said they will issue Show Cause Notices to the various dealers which were involved in such malpractices and accordingly action will be taken against these erring dealers. “We will also recommend the suspension of Trade of these dealers to their parent Registering Authorities”, Dr Zubair added.
