6 held in Baramulla for illegal mining; 6 vehicles confiscated
In a major crackdown on illegal mining activities, the Baramulla police have arrested six drivers and seized six vehicles involved in extracting and transporting minerals from environmentally sensitive areas.
The action took place on May 5, 2024, in Khanpora, Shrai, and Dargam areas of Baramulla. Police parties under the supervision of senior officers conducted raids and seized four tippers and two tractors allegedly being used for illegal mining.

Six individuals identified as the drivers of the seized vehicles were also apprehended. They have been named as Abdul Hamid Dar (Khanpora), Manzoor Ahmad Dar (Ijara Pehlipora), Asif Shafi Dar (Drangbal), Mushtaq Ahmad Magray (Shrai), Mohammad Shafi Ganie (Gulab Bagh Reram), and Waqar Ahmad Bhat (Naidkhai).
Cases have been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the law at the respective police stations. Investigations into the illegal mining activity are ongoing.
