Ladakh to celebrate Digital Payments Utsav during upcoming Y-20 Pre-summit

G20 UPI-QRs to be launched

LEH, April 18: With the aim to promote and establish a digital payments system during the Y-20 Pre-summit scheduled in Leh from 26th to 28th April 2023, Principal Secretary to the Administration, Sanjeev Khirwar chaired a meeting with the Administrative Secretaries, Deputy Commissioner Leh, representatives of National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), Municipal Corporation, UTLBC, and all stakeholders.

Addressing the meeting, PS Khirwar spoke of the launch of various campaigns across the expanse of the country by the Government of India, with special emphasis on the G20 host cities. He stated that as one of the campaigns, India’s G20 presidency aims to showcase India’s success in the digital economy and shall offer conditional help to interested countries to further advance their digital economy and payments infrastructure.

Therefore, in sync with the said objective, various digital activities are being planned by UT Ladakh Administration for the course of the upcoming Pre-summit.

Vikas Sirohi from NPCI, who is also the UT Relationship Officer informed the meeting of systems planned by Banks and different Departments to implement various Digital Payments modes, including G20 UPI-QRs and awareness campaigns prior to the Pre-summit in Leh.

He further explained the focus areas for promotion and enablement and shared experiences from the other G20 host cities with Digital Payment systems.

PS Khirwar instructed NPCI to schedule another round of discussions with all the Banks and UTLBC to ensure the implementation of the actions discussed. He also instructed all the departments to enable UPI, and QR codes and make them mandatory along with other feasible modes like NETC-FASTag for parking, etc.

The meeting decided that UT Ladakh shall celebrate the Digital Payments Utsav during the course of the Y-20 Pre-summit in Leh.
