AAP-led civic body will ensure speedy work at landfill sites once councillors take oath: Sisodia
New Delhi, Dec 28 (PTI) Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led civic body would ensure speedy work at the landfill sites once the councillors take oath next month.
Sisodia’s comments came as he along with the AAP’s nominated Mayor candidate Shelly Oberoi and Deputy Mayor candidate Aaley Mohammad Iqbal visited the Okhla Landfill site to inspect the progress of work.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that he along with Oberoi and Iqbal will visit the landfill sites every week to review the progress.
“AAP councillors have started working even before taking oath. We visited the Okhla landfill site and inspected the progress here so far. Work needs to speed up and I am hopeful that after January 6, AAP councillors will ensure the same. We need to visit the landfill sites every week to ensure the height of the garbage mountains reduces,” he said.
Taking a dig at the BJP, who was in power in the MCD for three consecutive terms, Sisodia said that it will not take 15 years for AAP to clear the landfill sites.
“It will not take us 15 years to clear the landfill sites. BJP was in power for 15 years in the MCD and yet they couldn’t do anything about the garbage mountains. The number of waste disposal machines will be increased at the landfill site to expedite the work. So far, the previous government had only deceived the people of Delhi in the name of removing these sites,” he said.
He said that the previous MCD government didn’t prioritise clearing the landfill sites and that the AAP is ready with its “action plan” to flatten the garbage mountains.
“Clearing the garbage mountains of Delhi in Ghazipur, Okhla and Bhalsawa was not the priority of the previous government, hence the height of these landfill sites kept on growing in the past 15 years. But now, we are ready with an action plan to eliminate these garbage mounds from Delhi. After the election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor is completed, the government will work on a war footing to free the city from these garbage mounds,” he said.
The Deputy Chief Minister further said that the vision of AAP is to make Delhi the cleanest capital in the world and that, their councillors in the MCD will be working towards it.
“Our vision is to make Delhi the cleanest and most beautiful capital in the world. Our work in the MCD will not only prove to be beneficial for the citizens living nearby these landfill sites, but will also improve their quality of life,” he said.
