2-day Sinthan Snow Festival-2023 being hosted from April

JAMMU, April 24: The Directorate of Tourism Jammu in association with District Administration Kishtwar, Kishtwar Development Authority, JKAACL and Indian Army are celebrating Sinthan Snow Festival on 29th & 30th April, 2023. 

The Sinthan Top is a highest motorable mountain pass that connects Kishtwar district with Anantnag District of Jammu and Kashmir and is 12, 414 ft above the sea level.

This pass is the highest mountain pass in J&K followed by Zojila Pass in the Himalayas i.e., 11, 500 ft in Kargil, Ladakh Union Territory.

One of the most well liked tourist destinations, Sinthan Top offers a 360o view of both Jammu and Kashmir regions. The neighboring Sinthan Maidan where the festival is being organized is becoming a significant hub for skiers, trekkers etc.

Live performances of famous local as well as celebrity singers shall be one of the main attractions of the said festival. Kishtwar Idol Finale and Inter College Group Dance Competition shall also be held at the Festival. Elaborate arrangements have been made for conduct of snow activities like skiing, sledging, snow kayaking, snow scooter etc.

Further a trekking expedition shall be organized from Pathramorh to Sinthan Maidan jointly with the Forest Department. Besides, horse riding, treasure hunt game, volleyball, marathon, tug of war will be other attractions.  

Vivekananda Rai, Director Tourism, Jammu, while addressing the media said that it is for the first time a Snow Festival is being organized at Sinthan Maidan in association with District Administration Kishtwar. “The festival is likely to bring this wonderful Tourist Spot, with stunning natural surroundings, in the limelight and capture the attention of visitors” he added.

Sunaina Sharma Mehta, Joint Director Tourism, Jammu, while speaking to the media said that Kishtwar has tremendous potential to emerge as one of the most attractive tourist destinations.

 “Locals as well as tourists are upbeat over the event which shall feature musical performances, adventure activities, various competitions like Kishtwar Idol Finale, Inter College Group Dance Competition etc. at Sinthan Maidan amidst snow capped mountains and mesmerizing views” she added.

Abdul Jabbar, Deputy Director Tourism, Publicity, while inviting the media personnel said that the Department expects enthusiastic participations of locals as well as tourists from all across the nation and this event has already evoked tremendous response from every one.
