PSPS Govt College for Women organises students’ field visit to Old Age Home
JAMMU, May 04: The Department of Psychology of Padma Shri Padma Sachdev (PSPS) Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, on Thursday organised a student’s field visit to the Home for the Aged and Infirm, Amphalla to sensitise them about the social problems affecting the elderly.
The visit was a part of their curriculum which focuses on holistic learning and giving back to the society. This activity was organised for the students of the second semester of the Psychology department. The students were apprised about the functioning of the Home by the President I. D Soni who explained that the Home was established about 59 years ago and caters to those who are either abandoned by their family members or those who have no living family members.
Secretary Vijay Kumar Bhagotra informed about the facilities provided to the residents such as regular medical checkup by the doctors, emergency services among others.
Every resident has been provided a single room and are provided with healthy meals and snacks throughout the day. The students interacted with the residents who shared their experiences with them.
R.C. Vaid and Vinod Kumar, members of the committee of the Home appreciated the gesture of the students and encouraged them to become better members of the society and contribute towards the well being of the needy people.
The visit was managed by the faculty members and staff of the Psychology Department viz. Prof Eisha Gohil, Dr Ujjwal Sharma, Dr Syed Shehna, Rohini Sharma, Satinder Kumar and Kuldeep Kumar. Dr Suraj Mohini, HoD Sociology also accompanied the students in the visit to the Old Age Home.
