Maiden Open Badminton Tournament (MOBT-2K23) concludes at Kathua Campus, JU
Kathua, May 18– The Maiden Open Badminton Tournament (MOBT-2K23) marked by overwhelming response and exciting matches concluded today at Kathua Campus, University of Jammu wherein more than 85 participants including students from campus, schools and colleges participated. Being an open tournament, citizens of Kathua and Jammu have also participated in the four categories viz. Men’s Single, Men’s Double, Women’s Single and Women’s Double.
The participants had neck to neck combat for the victory and a huge crowd enjoyed the thrilling performance of the participants. The first position in Men’s Single category was clinched by Achal Rajesh from Army Public School, Kathua who beat Ayush Kumar Sinha from CTM Staff Colony, Kathuaby (21-16) points whereas in Women’s Single category, Riya Jasrotia from GDC, Kathua finished first after defeating Priya from Dayalachakby (21-08) points. In Men’s Double, the first prize was won by AntrikshJasrotia and AbijeetJasrotia fromJanglotewho defeated Nitish and Pranav from Kathuaby (21-13) points whereas in Women’s Double, Riya Jasrotia and SakshiAndotra from GDC, Kathua were the winners who beat RidhamPathania and NitikaJawalia from Jammu Sanskriti School, Kathua by (21-14) points.
Dr.MeenakshiKilam, Rector, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu appreciated the efforts of Campus Sports Committee,Kathua Campus (JU) for successfully organizing the maiden open badminton tournament at Kathua Campus and motivated the students to actively participate in sports activities besides academics. She exhorted the importance of sports in physical and mental fitness and in inculcating discipline and a sense of mutual trust and confidence.She reiterated that the infrastructure of Kathua Campus (JU) is open for the youth of the region for practicing sports. She further said that this maiden open badminton tournament is in continuation of a series of initiatives to promote sports and build a new culture of collaboration among institutions and citizens of Kathua region. She aimed towards more progressive efforts that shall be put in future so that youth get benefited from these types of events.
The invited guests included Sh. Pardeep Singh Salathia, Physical Director, GDC Marheen, Sh. Sandeep Sharma, Physical Director, GDC Basohli, Ajay Sharma, Inspector, J&K Police, Sh. SrishtiMohan Sharma, Member, Badminton Association, Kathua, Shabeel Ahmed, General Secretary, Powerlifting Association, Kathua Guljar Ahmed, General Secretary, Kabaddi Association, Kathua, Sh. Naresh Kumar Sharma, President, Badminton Association, Kathua and Sh. Manoj Sangra, Ex-player, Officers Club, Kathua graced the valedictory ceremony by their kind presence and appreciated the efforts of Kathua Campus, University of Jammu for taking such initiatives for the youth and citizens of Kathua.
Earlier, Dr. Sourabh Shastri, Convener, Sports Committee, Kathua Campus (JU) welcomed the guests and participants and prompted the audience in general and students of the Campus in particular to actively participate in sports activities. He further said youth of Kathua district should make maximum utilization of these types of sports events to channelize their energy in the positive direction.
Dr.Zaheen Ansari, Organizing Secretary, MOBT-2k23 delivered vote of thanks whereas Ms. Ritika Goyal coordinated the valedictory ceremony. The matches were officiated by Dr. Sunny Sharma, Pranav Ratta, Raghav Sharma, Mohit Gupta, Ritik Gupta, Momin, Kartik, Manik Singh, AbhayLalhal, Ranjeet Singh, Madhvan Rajput, Dinesh, Tushar Sharma ,Ajay Bhagat and Abhishek Gupta.
Amit Sharma, Dr. Pankaj Khajuria, Gaurav Sharma, TiharikaNath, Avni Sharma and Kamakshi were also present.
