Kishtwar: 3200 Metric Ton illegally extracted Sand seized in Atholi

KISHTWAR, MAY 31: A joint team of Officers of different enforcement departments today carried out a successful operation against the illegal mining here under the  supervision of Deputy Commissioner, Dr Devansh Yadav.

The team comprising District Mineral Officer, Dr. Brijesh Manhas, Tehsildar Satish Rana and S.I Amrinder Singh seized a whopping 3200 metric ton illegally extracted sand  found dumped on the roadside in Tehsil Atholi of the Paddar Sub division of  District Kishtwar.

To curb the rampant illegal extraction of minor minerals and safeguard the environment, the enforcement authorities have launched a major crackdown in the District. Upon inspection, it was established that the perpetrators had violated the law, prompting the Enforcement team to take decisive action.

As a consequence, the offenders have been directed to present themselves at the District Mineral Office on Monday, 5th June 2023, for the compounding of the offense.

The DMO Kishtwar has issued a stern warning to all potential wrongdoers, making it abundantly clear that any future involvement in illegal extraction activities will not be tolerated.

Meanwhile, the district administration has stepped up surveillance   in the areas prone to illegal mining and transportation of construction material.

The mule track leading from the Main road to the riverbanks of Chenab at Navnatnoo area in Tehsil Nagseni has been identified as a potential site for illegal activities. The District Administration is actively monitoring the situation and has taken necessary measures to ensure strict adherence to the law.

The enforcement actions carried out by the district administration exemplify its commitment towards maintaining ecological balance in the district.
