World No Tobacco Day: Health Department Sunderbani organises awareness event
SUNDERBANI, May 31: To mark World No Tobacco Day, Health Department Sunderbani organized an awareness event at the Community Health Centre to educate the public about the detrimental effects of all tobacco products.
Under the theme “We Need Food, Not Tobacco,” the event aimed to promote a tobacco-free lifestyle and encourage individuals to quit smoking.
The event witnessed active participation of consultants, medical officers, health staff, ASHA workers and the general public.
Block Medical Officer of Sunderbani, Dr. Nissar Hussain delivered an informative lecture enlightening the masses about the life-threatening consequences of tobacco consumption. He urged individuals to take steps towards quitting this harmful habit for their well-being.
In his lecture, Dr. Rajesh Minia, a Consultant in Medicine, revealed that approximately 12 lakh people lose their lives each year in the country due to smoking-related illnesses. He emphasized that tobacco users are susceptible to 40 different types of cancers, including mouth and lung cancers, as well as 25 other serious diseases. Dr. Minia further stressed that smoking weakens the immune system, making individuals more vulnerable to various health conditions.
Dr. Sonali Khajuria administered a pledge to the attendees, urging them never to use or consume any form of tobacco products. She also encouraged the participants to motivate their family members and acquaintances to refrain from tobacco use, promoting a healthier environment for everyone.
To visually demonstrate solidarity against the use of tobacco, a rally was organized.
Block Medical Officer flagged off the rally, which featured attendees displaying placards and banners showcasing the negative impact of tobacco products on the environment. The rally aimed to raise awareness not only about the detrimental effects of tobacco on personal health but also on the environment.
The Health Department Sunderbani hopes that through such awareness events, individuals will recognize the importance of leading a tobacco-free life and take steps towards quitting tobacco consumption. By eliminating tobacco use, we can improve public health and create a cleaner and healthier environment for all.
