IIT Jammu’s Invention Factory: Experts assess promising prototypes

JAMMU: July 4: The Indian Institute of Technology Jammu (IIT Jammu), in collaboration with the Maker Bhavan Foundation (MBF), has successfully launched the inaugural edition of the highly anticipated Invention Factory program. This unique six-week summer program, originally established in the United States, aims to instill a culture of innovation among students. After successful editions at IIT Gandhinagar in 2018 and 2019, followed by IIT Bombay in 2022, the program has now extended its reach to IIT Jammu, providing a platform for exceptionally talented students from IITs and NITs across India.

Ten teams, each comprising two students selected from various IITs and NITs, embarked on the challenge of conceptualizing, prototyping, pitching, writing, and filing both Indian and US
provisional patent applications for their groundbreaking inventions. Throughout the course of the program, these teams are undergoing regular evaluations from a diverse panel of Guest
Evaluators, composed of experts from various fields.

This Tuesday, the panel of guest evaluators included notable personalities such as Aijaz Bhat,Qualcomm R&D; Prof Anurag Misra, IIT Jammu; Gopal Gajjar, Power Anser Labs Mumbai; Sandeep, Data Sailors; Rajesh Abrol, Jammu Smart City; CA Pradeep Gandotra; Varsha Bansal, Hotelier; and SL Kapoor, Jammu Smart City Limited. Their valuable insights, constructive feedback, and inspirational guidance served as catalysts for refining the inventions and even encouraged teams to explore alternative ideas.

The event’s key highlights were the revolutionary prototypes of the “Breathable Cast Maker,”
“Automatic Eyeglass Cleaner,” “Improved Metered Dose Asthma Inhaler,” and “Vibration
Damping Gloves.”

The Invention Factory program is mentored by the esteemed professors Dr Eric Lima and Dr
Alan Wolf, Founders of Invention Factory, hailing from Cooper Union University, New York,
USA. Their mentorship ensured that participants received unparalleled guidance and expertise.

The Invention Factory program provides young inventors with an extraordinary opportunity to
showcase their skills, network with like-minded visionaries, and leave an indelible mark on the
landscape of global innovation.
