FSD Anantnag conducts raids at different locations along NH at Qazigund
Seizes suspected saffron worth Rs. 6 lacs; 600 Kgs of inferior quality walnut kernels also confiscated
ANANTNAG, July 13: A team of the Food Safety Department (FSD) headed by Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety Anantnag today conducted raids at different locations on the national highway (NH) at Qazigund.
The raids were conducted consequent upon the inputs received regarding sale of spurious/adulterated saffron under different brand names at national highway Qazigund. During the raids the department seized suspected saffron worth an estimated market value of Rs. 6 lacs.
Meanwhile, the investigation has revealed that some Food Business operators have engaged unemployed youth for selling the suspected saffron to the travelers at national highway and the Department has initiated action against three Food Business Operators who are considered as kingpin behind such fraudulent practices.
During the raids around 600 Kgs of inferior quality walnut kernels have also been seized. Extensive awareness was also imparted to the stakeholders regarding the importance of promoting fair practices in the saffron trade.
Further, the Food Safety team warned Food Business Operators to desist from such fraudulent practices failing which stern action as per law shall follow against those who are found violating the different provisions of Act.
