Dy Chairman Tsering Angchuk extensively surveys flash floods affected areas in the Nubra sub-division; directs immediate restoration measures
Leh, July 25: The recent flash floods due to incessant and torrential rainfall in the Nubra sub-division caused severe destruction in many villages, such as Pinchimik, Kyagar, Chamshen, Yulkam, Murgi, Kuri, and Charasa. To assess the extent of damages caused by the flash floods and review the restoration efforts, Deputy Chairman, Tsering Angchuk conducted an extensive visit to the flood-affected areas.
Councillor Kyger, Rigzin Lhundup; Councillor Panamik, Tsering Sangdup; SDM Nubra Dorjey Gyaltson; Executive Engineer and Assistant Engineer, Public Works Department (PWD); Assistant Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control Department; Junior Engineer, Rural Development Department; and officials from the Revenue Department accompanied Dy Chairman during the visit.
The flash floods caused extensive damage to roads, canals, headworks, private properties, and houses. In Charasa village, several houses were damaged due to flash flooding. Also, the flash flood caused damages to the Chamshen Hydro Project, requiring urgent attention and restoration efforts.
Expressing concern over the damages, Dy Chairman Angchuk directed the concerned departments to mobilize teams to initiate a prompt restoration process. He emphasized the importance of coordinating efforts to swiftly restore the affected areas, ensuring the resumption of normalcy and the provision of basic amenities to the affected residents. The SDRF teams were also sensitized.
The Deputy Chairman’s visit to the flood-affected areas serves as reassurance to the affected communities that their concerns are being addressed at the highest level. The government remains committed to providing support and assistance to aid in the recovery and rehabilitation of the flash flood-affected areas.
The administration has also urged the residents of the affected areas to remain cautious and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during the restoration process. It is essential to prioritize the well-being of affected communities and to work together to expedite the restoration efforts.
Similarly, he also visited Khardong, Agyam, Khungru, Labab, and Digger villages, where several roads and headworks were washed away/ destroyed. The sub-divisional team led by Dy Chairman Tsering Angchuk would further visit other affected areas to assess the damages.
