DDC Ganderbal reviews progress of FPO formation in district

Directs for guiding FPO’s towards formation of sustainable entities

GANDERBAL, August 01: A District Monitoring Committee (DMC) meeting held under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner (DDC) Ganderbal, Shyambir discussed the progress of the FPO formation under Central Sector Scheme on formation and promotion of 10000 FPO’s.

Junaid Ahmad Hakim, DDM NABARD who is the Member Secretary of the committee briefed the forum about formation of five FPO’s in the district by implementing agencies viz., SFAC, NABARD and NAFED. It was revealed that out of five FPOs, four are of farmers associated with horticulture produces and one is of promotion of vegetables in the district.

The DDC directed all the line departments and CBBOs to take active part in guiding these FPOs towards formation of sustainable entities.

He directed to take a holistic view of the problems being faced by the farmers and suggest the best practicable medium for the FPO’s sustainability for a longer period.

He further directed the FPO members who were present to take advantage of different Govt. Schemes and register with the departments for ranging benefits under HADP.

The DDC directed the agencies to arrange for buyer – seller meets and explore the potential of different online and offline platforms for better revenue generation for the FPOs.

The meeting was attended by DDM NABARD, LDM, Deputy Registrar Cooperatives, Chief Horticulture Officer, Chief Agriculture Officer, line departments, CBBO’s, farmers, CEO’s, members from the FPOs and other concerned.
