Ramban DC chairs meeting to review measures for protection of communities

RAMBAN, August 03:  Deputy Commissioner, Mussarat Islam, who is also the Chairman of the District Level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee for implementation of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities Act), 1989 and Protection of Civil Right Act 1955, chaired a Bi-Annual Committee meeting.

The DC reviewed the functioning of the committee and said that it should ensure claims are paid to victims, including travelling and maintenance expenses paid to witnesses during investigation and trial of offences under the Act.

The DC directed Police Department to ensure zero tolerance for atrocities and register cases as per provisions of the Act.

The DC directed the police department to immediately forward cases registered under the Act to the Member Secretary for further action, including investigating and filing charge sheets as per law and rules.

Discussion was also held on setting up an SC/ST protection cell headed by Deputy Superintendent Headquarters and appointing special officers for identified areas to coordinate with the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police for implementation of provisions of the act.

The DC also discussed measures for social and financial rehabilitation of victims.

ACR, Gias-ul-Haq; Dy. SP Headquarters, Om Prakash; DSWO, Rahul Gupta and other members of the committee attended the meeting.

DDC Councillor, Shameem Akter; Lecturer, Rajinder Kumar and Arun Kumar were also present in the meeting.
