Rajouri, Poonch and Kathua districts celebrate Azadi Ka Khel Utsav
JAMMU, AUGUST 07: The Independence Day week celebrations under the special vertical of Azadi Ka Khel Utsav continued to be held in the union territory of J&K as events in the disciplines of Volleyball, Athletics, Carrom and Tug-of-War competitions were organized at Government Higher Secondary School, Mahanpur in district Kathua.
While in Tug-of-War six teams, in Volleyball two teams, in Carrom six teams and fifty athletes participated in the day-long competition.
The Sarpanch of Mahanpur Panchayat, Sohan Lal was the chief guest on the occasion. He facilitated the winners at the culmination of the programme.
While speaking on the occasion, he motivated the participants and encouraged them to actively participate in sports.
This event was conducted under the overall supervision of Baljinder Pal Singh, Manager District Kathua. He was assisted by Shakti Gupta, Senior Judo Coach, and other officials from the council.
Meanwhile, similar activities were organized at the Government Higher Secondary School Surankote. The competition was conducted for both boys and girls, where four teams each for girls and boys participated in the Tug of War event, besides Volleyball and Carrom.
The event was supervised by the Incharge Sports Stadium Poonch, Nirdosh Kumar. He was assisted by Mushtaq Ahmed Boxing coach and other officials of the Sports Council in the district.
The Government Girls Higher Secondary School and Crist Higher Secondary School in the border town of Nowshera.
The competitions in the disciplines of Tug-of-War, Volleyball, and Kho-Kho marked the celebrations of Independence-Day week celebrations.
The Principal of Crist Higher Secondary School was the chief guest of the event in which more than 400 students from twin schools participated. This event was supervised by Bashir Ahmad, Manager, Sports Stadium Rajouri and he was assisted by Shabir Hussain and Prem Chand.
The special sports events shall continue this week under the Azadi Ka Khel Utsav vertical to spread the message of oneness among the masses besides advocating for healthy lifestyle and keep a check on growing menace of drugs, said an official of Sports Council. He also urged the parents and teachers to encourage the children to take up sports and pave the way for a healthier society.
