Udhampur District declared as ODF plus Model under Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen

UDHAMPUR, August 10:  Udhampur District has achieved a significant milestone in its cleanliness and sanitation efforts, as it has been declared as ODF plus Model under the Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen (SBM-G) initiative.

This prestigious recognition has been bestowed upon Udhampur District, acknowledging its exceptional progress in the field of rural sanitation.

 As per the Rural Sanitation Directorate, all 388 villages of 236 Panchayats of Udhampur District have attained the ODF plus Model status under the SBM-G. This remarkable achievement is a testament to efforts of the Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Sachin Kumar Vaishya,  Charandeep Singh, Director Rural Sanitation J&K, Dr. Ranjeet Singh Kotwal, Assistant Commissioner Panchayats, DPO, BDOs, and all the Rural Development staff towards ensuring cleanliness and proper sanitation facilities in rural areas.

The Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen initiative aims to bring about a comprehensive transformation in the sanitation and hygiene practices of rural India. It strives to eliminate open defecation, promote solid and liquid waste management, and foster a culture of cleanliness and hygiene among the rural population. By being declared a model district, Udhampur has demonstrated its commitment to these goals and has set an example for other districts to follow.

The District Administration Udhampur has implemented a range of innovative measures and initiatives to achieve this remarkable feat. These include the construction of individual household toilets, community sanitary complexes, solid and liquid waste management systems, and the promotion of behavioral change through awareness campaigns and capacity-building programs.

The ODF plus Model designation under Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen reflects not only the physical infrastructure developed but also the overall improvement in cleanliness and sanitation practices. Udhampur District aims to sustain this achievement and continue its efforts towards creating a clean and healthy living environment for its rural population.
