GDC Ukhral hosts Symposium on “Empowerment of Youth: HIV/AIDS Awareness and Prevention”

RAMBAN, AUGUST 12: In continuation to the celebration of India’s 77th Independence Day, The Red Ribbon Club of GDC Ukhral organised a symposium on “Empowerment of Youth: HIV/AIDS Awareness and Prevention” under the aegis of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM).

 The symposium was held in alignment with the theme of International Youth Day. The programme was attended by all the staff and students of the college.

While commencing the programme, the Patron of the college Prof (Dr) Shallu Samyal threw light on the importance of the day and need of awareness programmes to disseminate the message that care is the only cure of this disease. The resource-person of the day was Dr Mehrul Nissa from PHC Ukhral. She at length discussed the various aspects of the disease and the primary preventions about this menace. Her lecture was well appreciated by the students for clearing their queries about the disease. A number of students presented their papers on the occasion and position holders are being felicitated on the Independence Day. The first position   was  held by Sweety Devi, while the second position was shared by Sohan Singh and  Manju Devi and the third position was shared by Mohd Tamseed Gani and Ab. Qadeer Bali.

Prof Zakir Hussain, Prof Suresh Chander and Dr Shafiq Ahmad Katoch also presented their thoughts about the topic of the symposium. The programme coordinator Dr Shafiq Ahmad Katoch (Coordinator Red Ribbon Club) was complimented for his efforts of organising this programme. The proceedings were done by Prof Iftikhar Hussain – Convener, Debates and Seminar.

Later, in collaboration with 12RR of Ukhral Company, a movie related to Kargil war was played before the staff and the students, adding more to international youth day celebration.
