Kalaburagi: Bulk generators to be penalised for ‘unscientific’ disposal of waste
Kalaburagi (Karnataka) [India], August 19 (ANI): Kalaburagi City Corporation (KCC) authorities have asked all bulk waste generators in the city to ensure proper disposal of garbage, and warned that they will start imposing penalties on those failing to comply with the instruction.
According to officials, bulk waste generators are entities that generate waste in large quantities, and the direction is meant for bulk waste generators, especially restaurants, educational institutions, shopping complexes, and malls among others.
“All the bulk waste generators in the city are requested not to dispose of garbage ‘unscientifically’ as it is hazardous,” KCC’s environmental engineer, Munaf Patel, said.
“Heavy amount of penalties will be imposed on bulk waste generators if they fail to ensure proper disposal of garbage generated on their respective premises,” said an official on Saturday.
“Recently, we have imposed a Rs 50,000 penalty on the central bus stand for burning the garbage. So they have admitted politely and they have assured that they’ll not repeat it again,” said Munaf Patel.
According to the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016, a bulk waste generator means and includes buildings occupied by the central government departments or undertakings, state government departments or undertakings, local bodies, public sector undertakings or private companies, hospitals, nursing homes, schools, colleges, universities, other educational institutions, etc having an average waste generation rate exceeding 100kg per day.
Earlier, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) decided to charge water fees in addition to the challans issued to bulk waste generators (BWGs) who disregarded waste management regulations.
