WB: BJP’s Raju Bista urges Governor’s intervention for CBI probe into crime against minor in Matigara

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], August 25 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Raju Bista has urged West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose to intervene and facilitate a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the distressing incident of attempted sexual assault and murder of a minor child in Matigara.

“Today, I have requested intervention by Dr CV Ananda Bose ji, Governor of West Bengal for CBI inquiry into the heinous attempt to sexual assault and murder of a minor child in Matigara,” a Member of Parliament said.

He further stated “I have informed the Governor that, given the record of the West Bengal government in providing shelter and support to illegal immigrants and criminal elements in our region, the people are worried, that the state government may not allow fair investigations to happen. As such the West Bengal government does not allow the police to work freely in the state, and all investigations and findings are directed from Nabanna.”

“Even though the Siliguri Police have arrested the accused…, however, the people from our region are not satisfied with the fact that despite the accused confessing to sexual assault being the primary motive, the police FIR does not contain any sections under the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Since the police are not free, we are fearful that the investigations may be diverted by the State Govt, in their bid to save the culprit,” he said.

Bista emphasized that the murder is a direct affront to the children of North Bengal, citing a precarious environment where children’s safety is compromised both at school and at home.

“This murder is a direct attack on the children of North Bengal. Today our children are not safe in their own schools and homes. Such a situation has been allowed to foment due to the TMC Govt supporting the settlement of illegal immigrants in sensitive border regions like ours. When the Chief Minister says she won’t let the National Registration of Citizens survey be done in West Bengal, she emboldens these criminal elements and illegal immigrants,” he added.

Bista contended that criminals perceive protection under the ruling party, while ordinary citizens live in fear.

“This is what TMC has turned West Bengal into, a safe haven for criminals and illegal immigrants,” he said.

He concluded by advocating for an impartial CBI investigation, and said, “Only a free and unbiased investigation by the CBI can unearth the entire truth, including how illegal immigrants are being deliberately settled in our region. Only then will the victim and her family get justice.”
