Department of Library and Information Science, University of Jammu celebrates Librarian’s Day.

Jammu, August 25: The Department of Library and Information Science at the University of Jammu marked a momentous occasion on August 25, 2023, by celebrating Librarians’ Day with great enthusiasm and reverence. The event was a testament to the importance of librarians in shaping the world of knowledge and learning. The celebration included insightful lectures, a distinguished chief guest and inspirational speeches.

The festivities commence at 2 o’clock in the afternoon with a warm welcome extended to all attendees by Miss Riya, the moderator for the day. The atmosphere was charged with anticipation as the  faculty members,Scholars,students,library professional s gathered to honor the contributions of librarians and their commitment to the dissemination of knowledge.

The highlight of the event was the enlightening lecture delivered by the Head of the Department Prof Sangita Gupta who welcomed our esteemed chief guest Prof. Rahul Gupta, Registrar University of Jammu, and eloquently discussed the legacy of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, a pioneer in the field of library science. The lecture shed light on Ranganathan’s innovative contributions and his enduring influence on modern librarianship. It served as a reminder of the continued relevance of his principles in the digital age.

The event was graced by the presence of Professor Rahul Gupta, Registrar University of Jammu. Professor Gupta, the esteemed chief guest of the event, captivated the audience with his profound insights into the evolving role of librarians in the digital era. His lecture was a thought-provoking exploration of the challenges and opportunities that librarians face in today’s information-rich society.

Assistant Professor Ashwin Khushwaha also shared his thoughts, emphasizing the pivotal role librarians play in fostering a culture of curiosity and lifelong learning.

Miss Pooja Rana, Research Scholar delivered the Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to Professor Rahul Gupta for his enlightening lecture, to the Head of the Department for her insightful discourse on Ranganathan, and to all attendees for their presence and participation.
