Eco-friendly, Green RakshabandhanCelebrated at the Udhampur Campus, JU

JAMMU August 29 : In an effort to show love, care and protection of the vegetation and environment, Udhampur Campus, University of Jammuon the eve of Raksha Bandhan, celebrated Green Rakshabandhan (Vriksha-bandhan) with the school children of village Garnai-Lotta Govt schools under the banner of “Green Rakhi”. As part of the best practices,young and artistic students added a special touch to the occasion by preparing Green Rakhis (Sacred protection thread) out of flowers and leaves as part of their enthusiastic celebration of Rakshabandhan. The idea behind the unique approach of commemorating Raksha-bandhanasvriksha-bandhan was to make a pledge to the trees that they would be protected and cared just as humans are protected and fed by them. Students respectfully tied sacred Rakhi thread on trees to disseminate the message to mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) as well as “Save and protect the Environment for future security”, and to show their affection and relationship with the environment.

In his message to the youth of the region and school children, Prof Yash Pal Sharma, Rector, Udhampur Campus said that the heartwarming Raksha Bandhan festival, which honours the security and affection between siblings, families, and societies,  needs to be further extended and celebrated with the community of plants and animals which are actually the savior of our life and environment. He also appreciated the students for making Green Rakhis which stand out and convey a deep message of love and sustainability.

Following learning-based approach, the campus students and school children during their interaction displayedRakhis made by them. Students and teachers of Govt. High School and Govt. Middle School, Garnai participated in the celebration with great enthusiasm. The event was coordinated by Dr. Mamta Sharma, Dr. Shilpa Gupta, Dr. Ritika Sambyal, MrsTaruna Dubey, Dr. Kamani Dutta, Mr. Nikhil Khajuria, Dr. Sunita Kumari, Dr. Jyotishna and Dr. Jatinder Kour.
