Office of the Programme Coordinator NSS, JU Celebrates National Youth Day

Jammu, Jan 12- The Office of the Programme Coordinator, NSS commemorates ‘National Youth Day’ in the University of Jammu. The National Youth Day is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda ji- the great Indian Thinker, Philosopher and Social Leader. More than 100 volunteers from various departments of the University and from different colleges participated in the programme.

 Prof Meena Sharma, Dean Planning, University of Jammu was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Prof Jasbir Singh, Head, Department of Philosophy and Former, Convenor and Programme Coordinator, NSS and Prof. Vishav Raksha, Head, Department of Sociology and Former, Programme coordinator, NSS were the Guest of Honour in the Programme. Swami Yajnadharananda ji, Secretary Ramakrishna Mission Jammu was the Guest Speaker and Mr. Ganesh Singh. Senior Former NSS volunteer was the special Invitee.

Earlier Dr. Hema Gandotra, Programme Coordinator, NSS welcomed the guests and the volunteers from different colleges and department. She highlighted the importance of celebrating the National Youth Day and focussed on how the ideological orientation of the youth  gets inspired by the commemoration of such days. She further briefed about the activities being undertaken by the Office and ensured that in near future too the office shall continue to  work with the motto “NOT ME BUT YOU”.

Swami Yajnadharanada, the Speaker of the occasion inspired and motivated the volunteers by narrating the life incidences of Swami Vivekananda ji. He stressed upon the importance of selfless service towards others in the society. He motivated the volunteers to imbibe the values of Swami Vivekananda ji and follow his path of truth and sincerity.  Later after the lecture a small documentary on the life of Swami Vivekananda ji was also screened.

Prof. Vishav Raksha, Head Department of Sociology, in her speech shared her experiences of being a NSS volunteer and later NSS Programme Co-ordinator. She expressed how Social Service becomes an important part in the life of an individual if it is being done with motivation and sincerity. She also spoke on the importance of moral values among the youth and volunteers which later help them to become responsible citizens. Prof Jasbir Singh, Head , Department of Philosophy and Former Convenor and Programme coordinator,NSS expressed his feelings of being associated with NSS for past many Years. He congratulated the volunteers for their mass participation in the programme. He spoke on the importance of the teachings of Swami Vivekananda ji in the life of an individual and motivated the volunteers for undertaking selfless service in the society.

Prof Meena Sharma, Dean Planning, University of Jammu and chief Guest of the Occasion congratulated Dr. Hema Gandotra, the Programme Coordinator NSS for organising such activity on a large scale. Prof Meena highlighted the role of philosophy in every sphere of life. Being a senior Professor of Sciences, she linked the philosophy with science by sharing important examples which deeply explained the meaning of life. She appreciated the activities being undertaken on the campus by NSS for the students and volunteers and argued that such activities and events reflect the functioning of the University both at the regional and national level.

The entire programme was conducted by Dr. Shallu Sehgal, NSS Programme Officer and she later also presented the formal vote of thanks. Among Others Dr. Monika Bhardwaj, NSS Programme Officer, Mr. Ganesh Singh, Senior, NSS Volunteer, Ms. Neha Uttam, Ms. Manu Saini, attended the Programme.
