Central University of Jammu organises One-Day International Symposium on “Sustainable Green Initiatives: A Global Perspective”

JAMMU 5^th Sept 2023: A one-day international symposium “Sustainable Green Initiatives: A Global Perspective” (hybrid mode) was organised by the Dean Research Studies and School of Life Sciences, Central University of Jammu (CUJ) in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry, Durban University of Technology (DUT), South Africa under the guidance of Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, CUJ today.

Prof. Deepak Pathania, Convener of the Symposium and Dean Research Studies CUJ, welcomed the dignitaries and all the participants to start the event. It was followed by the Keynote Address by Prof. K. Motaung, Biomedical Scientist and Director, Technology Transfer and Innovation, DUT, South Africa. She introduced the audience with the advances in technological interventions and green initiatives in sustainable development.

Dr.Yashwant Singh, Registrar CUJ, was the Chief Guest of the event, and Prof. B.S. Bhau, Dean, School of Life Sciences along with Prof. Sunil Dhar, Head Department of Environmental Sciences was the Guest of Honour.

Dr.Yashwant addressed the audience and accentuated the need to conserve biodiversity and promote clean energy, responsible agriculture, and ethical business practices. Prof. Ajay Kumar Mishra from DUT, South Africa emphasised the role of nanotechnology in sustainable development.

Twelve oral and thirty poster presentations were delivered by the faculty members and the research scholars of CUJ, India and DUT, South Africa. It was the first event between these two institutions after signing an MoU. The symposium was aimed at exploring the best possibilities of collaboration, exchange of knowledge and skills between these two leading institutions.

The event provided a platform for the promotion of interdisciplinary research in the area of material science, nanoscience, environmental sciences, life sciences and engineering. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. B.S. Bhau, Dean, School of Life Sciences, CUJ.
