Two Day Workshop on Introduction to Robotics hosted by e-Yantra, CSE Department, IIT Bombay, started at the Department of Computer Science & IT, JU

Jammu, September 14: A two-day workshop on introduction to robotics, conducted by e-Yantra, CSE Department, IIT Bombay, started today at the Department of Computer Science & IT, University of Jammu, for the teachers of the engineering and science streams. Prof. Rajnikant, Dean Research Studies, University of Jammu, was the chief guest of the inaugural session. While addressing the participants, Professor Rajnikant congratulated the department for taking the lead in organising such workshops from time to time and for making significant and visible progress in infrastructure, teaching, research, and academics. Prof. Rajnikant emphasised that it is very essential for the faculty to regularly enhance their knowledge and keep themselves abreast of the latest developments. He congratulated Prof. Kavi Arya, IIT Bombay for leading the e-Yantra initiatives on such a large scale for the benefit of society.

Prof. Kavi Arya, D.Phil. (Oxon), Principal Investigator, e-Yantra, and Professor, CSE Department, IIT Bombay, in his virtual address, emphasized the need for hands-on training in the latest technology using the robotics kits designed by IIT Bombay for enhancement of skills in the field of microcontroller programming. He further said that more than 400 robotics labs have been established across the country with the goal of inculcating interest and talent among the young engineers to solve real problems using the latest high-end technology. Prof. Arya further said that e-Yantra is a robotics outreach programme funded by the Ministry of Education and hosted at IIT Bombay. He appreciated the initiative taken by the department in organizing e-Yantra workshop and hoped that collaborations may be worked out in the future with the Department of Computer Science & IT, University of Jammu.

Prof. Pawanesh Abrol, Head, Department of Computer Science & IT, University of Jammu, while welcoming the dignitaries and the participants, expressed gratitude to Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, for his constant support, encouragement, and motivation for organising such high-skilled workshops with premier institutions like IIT Bombay. Prof. Abrol also congratulated Prof. Rajnikant, on behalf of the entire department, for his new appointment as Vice Chancellor at Rabindra Nath Tagore University, Bhopal. Prof. Abrol elaborated on the series of academic and research initiatives regularly taken up by the department and informed that participants from more than 20 institutions from different states have registered for the said workshop, which shall be conducted by the resource persons from e-Yantra in the computer labs using the robotics kits.

Prof. Lalit Sen Sharma, while addressing the audience, emphasized that such hands-on training in the field of robotics would inculcate their interest in this field. Mr. Kalind Karia and Mr. Harish Vikinesh from e-Yantra, IIT Bombay, shall be conducting the workshops.

Prof. Vinod Sharma, Dr. Shubhnandan S. Jamwal, Sh. Jasbir Singh, Dr. Suresh Rao, Ms. Namrata Karlupia, Dr. Rajneet Kaur, Ms. Haneet Kour, Ms. Ayusi Gupta, Mr. Anil Tickoo, Sh. Sanjay Manhas, Mr Gurpal, Dr. Sudesh Triphati, research scholars, technical staff, and participants from different institutions across the neighbouring states attended the inauguration.
