PCC J&K observes World Ozone Day with students, teachers of Jammu schools

JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 16: J&K Pollution Control Committee held a function to mark the World Ozone Day involving students and teachers from different eco-clubs of schools in Jammu.

Ozone Day is observed on 16th September every year and the theme for this year is “Fixing the ozone layer and reducing climate change.”

The keynote address for the event was delivered by Dr. Shweta Yadav, Sr. Assistant Professor, Central University, Jammu who is a Fulbright Alumna and INYAS member. In her talk, she highlighted the success of concerted national and international efforts in recovery of the ozone layer. The participants were informed about ozone depleting substances and what actions can be taken to reduce their usage. The UN-backed Scientific Assessment Panel to the Montreal Protocol on Ozone Depleting Substances assessment report confirms the phase out of nearly 99% of banned ozone- depleting substances.

The lecture was followed by an interactive session in which the students participated with enthusiasm. The students along with their teachers were felicitated by the J&K PCC for their active participation in the event. The event was attended by the officers of J&K PCC. The participants resolved to make necessary lifestyle changes to mitigate the problem of pollution in general and for protection of the ozone layer in particular.
