GDC Ukhral organises seminar on “Non-Violence as Weapon of Indian Freedom Struggle”

JAMMU, September 18: A one day seminar on the theme “Non-violence as Weapon of Indian Freedom Struggle” was today organized by NSS Unit of Government Degree College Ukhral to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

The Department of Political Science, Career Counselling Cell and IQAC also collaborated in holding the event.

Prof. Zakir Hussain Naik, NSS Programme Officer and HoD Political Science, presented the welcome address. He highlighted that the objective of organising this seminar is to delve into the concept of Truth and Non-Violence as the potent force of Gandhiji for the freedom struggle of India.

Around 15 students presented their papers on the occasion. All the participants expressed the view that the Non-violence was one of the greatest weapons of Gandhiji in liberating India from British colonialism.

Anand Singh, Army Officer from 12 RR was the Chief Guest on the occasion. In his address, he emphasised upon the students to cherish the noble values of Truth, Love, Non-violence and Peace. He appreciated the students for their marvellous presentations and College Administration for organising this seminar.

The Principal of the College, Prof. (Dr.) Shallu Samyal, presided over the function. In her presidential speech, she said that Mahatma Gandhi was the most widely recognized figure of the Indian National  Movement and saluted his role in the non-violent freedom struggle of India. She impressed upon the students to pursue the values and thoughts of Gandhiji in their life which are based on truth and non-violence.

The best three paper presenters were given awards and the Certificate of Participation was given to all other participants. The Jury members for today’s programme were Dr. Shafiq Ahmed Katoch, Prof Iftikhar Hussain Lone and Prof Suresh Chander.

The seminar was attended by all the teaching and non-teaching staff members of the college including Dr. Shafiq Ahmed Katoch, Prof Iftikhar Hussain Lone, Prof. Ishfaq Hassan Mir, Prof. Mushtaq Ahmed Hajam.

Prof. Suresh Chander, Convener Career Counselling Cell, presented the formal vote of thanks to all the guests and participants.

The proceedings of the program were conducted by Ishfaq Hassan Mir, while the technical support was provided by Akash Verma and   Farooq Ahmed Katoch. The program culminated with recitation of the National Anthem.
