Half of population will get their rights: Haryana CM Khattar on women’s quota bill

Chandigarh (Haryana) [India], September 21 (ANI): Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Women’s Reservation Bill, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Thursday that the move will ensure that Indian women get their rights.

Women’s Reservation Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday with near unanimity with 454 members voting in favour and only two members opposing it.

“Thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for bringing the historic bill for women. This decision taken under his leadership will ensure that half the population will get their rights. The day when the Women’s Reservation Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha is a historic day,” CM Khattar said in a program organised for the celebration of the passing of the Bill.

He also praised the Central government’s Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign which he said PM Modi started in Panipat. He said good results of the campaign are there on the ground for everyone to see.

Meanwhile, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said that the bill will be introduced in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday for passage.

The Bill provides one-third reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and the State Assemblies.

“In Rajya Sabha, the Women’s Reservation Bill will be brought through Supplementary Business as we were late in Lok Sabha yesterday. The Lok Sabha Secretariat knows better about it. But I can tell you that the discussion will be held in Rajya Sabha today,” he said while talking to the reporters.

After the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill in Rajya Sabha, all the women MPs of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will greet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his chamber located at Parliament House today, sources said.
