Gujarat: 4 injured as portion of old bridge collapses in Surendranagar
Surendranagar (Gujarat) [India], September 25 (ANI): At least four people were injured after an old bridge on Bhogavo river in Gujarat’s Surendranagar district partially collapsed on Sunday evening, officials said.
According to the officials, four people were rescued by villagers after they fell into the river following the collapse of the bridge.
Officials said that the incident occurred when a dumper truck tried to cross the bridge near Wadhwan tehsil, even though the entry of heavy vehicles to the bride was restricted.
“A dumper and a bike were on the bridge when it collapsed, leaving four persons with minor injuries,” said Nayaab Mamlatdar Wadhawan of Surendranagar’s Wadhwan tehsil Harpal Singh Dodiya said.
Nayaab Mamlatdar added that the injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital.
He further informed that after the collapse, the traffic had to be diverted from near dam in Bhogavo river.
“The Roads and Housing Department is going to undertake restoration works,” he added.
