Asansol: Contractor shot dead by unidentified assailants in Kulti; investigation underway

Asansol (West Bengal) [India], October 11 (ANI): A contractor was allegedly shot in the Kulti police station area of Asansol, West Bengal on Wednesday morning.

The 55-year-old deceased was identified as Shambhunath Mishra, a resident of Chinakuri.

Sources informed that the firing incident took place in Kulti’s Chinakuri’s number 3 area.

After receiving the information about the incident, police officials in large numbers arrived at the scene to investigate the matter.

Sources informed Mishra was having breakfast at a local shop located at Chinakuri number 3 when two bike-borne boys came and opened fire on Mishra. The bystanders who witnessed the crime claimed that at least 6 rounds of bullets were fired.

After the incident was reported to the Kulti police station, a large number of police personnel reached the scene.

Mishra was rushed to Asansol District Hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead. The incident has left people in the Kulti area terrified.

“Three people came and shot him while he was having tea at a local shop. His forehead and back were severely injured, and when he was taken to Asansol Hospital, he was declared dead by the doctor,” told Mishra’s brother-in-law, Arvind Tiwari, to the media.

On being asked whether Mishra had any enemies who could have carried out this attack, Tiwari said, “I am unaware if he had any enemies or not.”

Speaking to the media, DCP Asansol, Abhishek Modi said, “Today at around 7 am, some unidentified people shot multiple rounds of fire at Shambhunath Mishra, and then he was shifted to Asansol hospital where he was declared dead.”

The police said that they have also received CCTV footage of the incident, and futher investigation into the matter is underway”.
