JKAACL organises 2-Day Urdu writers Conference at Jammu University

JAMMU, October 16: The Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages (JKAACL) organised “2-Day Urdu writers Conference at seminar Hall of Department of Urdu, Jammu University.

The theme of the conference was “Social and Cultural Challenges in Urdu Language and Literature”.

The Inaugural session of the Conference was presided over by Prof. Anwar Pasha, former head of the Department Jawahar Lal Nehru University. Prof. Qadoos Javed presented the keynote address on “Social and Cultural Challenges in Urdu Language and Literature”. Prof.Mohd. Reyaz Ahmad, Professor and Head of Department of Urdu Jammu University shared the presidium with Bharat Singh, Secretary JKAACL where as Anil Sehgal was the Guest of Honour.

At the outset, Bharat Singh, Secretary JKAACL, gave a heartfelt cordial welcome to everyone having respect and love for Urdu Language. While addressing the audience, he said that main thought behind keeping this program at Urdu Department was to involve the students and scholars of Urdu in the programme for better development of the Language and get better results. He further added that the development of a Language is in the hands of the people who reads and write that language.

In his presidential address Prof. Anwar Pasha appreciated the efforts of JKAACL to organise such literary and cultural activities.  He stressed upon the need to encourage new generation of writers to write on various aspects of socio themes.

Dr. Shahnawaz, Editor Cum cultural Officer, JKAACL presented Vote of thanks. He said that such initiatives will be taken in future also. The inaugural session was conducted by Dr. Farhat Shamim, Asstt. Professor, Department of Urdu.

After the inaugural session, paper reading session was organised in which Dr Nusrat Jabeen presented paper on  “Social and Cultural Challenges in teaching of Urdu Language and Literature”, Dr Alataf Anum on  “Social and Cultural Challenges in criticism of Urdu Language and Literature”, Dr Abdul Rashid Manhas presented paper on  “Social and Cultural Challenges Journalism of Urdu Language and Literature”,. The session was presided over by Anil Sehgal, renowned Journalist while Khalid Hussain was guest of honour.

The session was conducted by Prof. Rashid Manhas, Assistant Prof. Department of Urdu.

An Urdu Mushaira was also presented by more than 20 poets from across the J&K. This session was presided over by renowned Poet Pritapal Singh Betab.
