Kuwait research body arranges gathering of EU diplomats ahead of COP28
Kuwait City [Kuwait], October 26 (ANI/WAM): A Kuwaiti research body on Tuesday organised a gathering of European Union (EU) diplomats at the country’s Shagaya Renewable Energy Complex, ahead of the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28), reported the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
The visit is part of the “Green Diplomacy Weeks 2023,” an initiative organised by the EU, which aims at promoting a “just energy transition globally,” said a statement by the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR).
On the facility’s potential capacity, Dr. Ahmed Al-Mulla, Acting Executive Director of the Energy Research Centre, said, “It could reach 70 megawatts in the first phase of the project, while it consists of three technologies including solar thermal energy, photovoltaic energy and wind energy.”
The visit of the EU contingent “reflects the bloc’s commitment to combating climate change and the urgent need to transition to renewable energy sources,” added the statement.
The EU “Green Diplomacy Weeks” is part of the annual global campaign launched by the European Union and its Member States to spark conversations and inspire action for the environment. For this year’s EU Green Diplomacy Weeks, the theme is “Empowering the Future: Cleaner Energy, More Equal Opportunities”.
