Focused on Role of Media- Connecting Science and Society

CUJ, 02 Nov 2023: The Central University of Jammu’s Department of Mass Communication and New Media, in collaboration with the Thursday Mind Meet Forum, organized a thought-provoking event titled “Thursday Mind Meet: Media – Connecting Science and Society” at the university campus. This event aimed to bridge the gap between the scientific community, media professionals, and society at large.

The event was inaugurated by Prof. Vandana Sharma, Dean School of Languages, and Convener of the Thursday Mind Meet Forum. She emphasized on the visionary approach of the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev jain behind this initiative and warmly welcomed the esteemed panelist, Prof. Yashapal Sharma from University of Jammu.

Dr. Abhay Rajput, Head of the Department of Mass Communication and New Media, CUJ coordinating the event. He highlighted the significance of effective science communication and the pivotal role that media plays in connecting scientific advancements with society.

Prof. Yashapal Sharma during the event shared his valuable insights. He delivered a lecture focused on Communication of Sciences in Traditional Living of Jammu and Kashmir. Prof.  Sharma shed light on the historical and cultural context of Jammu and Kashmir and highlighted how traditional practices are deeply intertwined with scientific principles. He also discussed various research papers that explore the connection between everyday life and scientific principles, fostering a better appreciation for science in society.Prof. Sharma later on addressed student’s queries and enthusiastically answered a wide range of questions from the students, encouraging a deeper understanding of the subject.

The event, Thursday Mind Meet, was a testament to the Central University of Jammu’s commitment to fostering meaningful dialogues and bringing together diverse perspectives. It served as a platform to encourage collaborative efforts between the worlds of media, science, and society.

The panel discussion featured a diverse group of individuals, including scholars Pragya (Department of Mass Communication and New Media), Anish Gupta (Department of Chemistry), and students of MCNM, Gyanendra, and Deepti. They engaged in an insightful discourse that explored how media can bridge the gap between the scientific community and society, facilitating a better understanding of scientific advancements.
