Director Agriculture Jammu inspects Seed Multiplication Farm Chinore
2265 acre land sown for this Rabi season
JAMMU, NOVEMBER 03: Director Agriculture Production & Farmers Welfare, Jammu Ram Savak today reviewed the functioning of Seed Multiplication Farm, Chinore during his visit to the border area.
The Director Agriculture inspected the ongoing field activities at the farm. He also evinced keen interest in latest machinery being used at the farm like Super seeder, combines, seed drills, trans-planters, multi-crop-threshers, tractors, potato planters, ridgers, offsets etc. and said that efficient use of the machinery should be ensured. There is still much scope to boost production and productivity through implementation of latest farm production techniques, he added.
The Director also reviewed the production status of Kharif crops and passed instructions for mechanized sowing of Rabi crops. Issue of expanding irrigation facilities at the farm was also discussed on the occasion.
Further, the Director was apprised about the developments made in the quality seed production of crops at the Farm despite being located at a vulnerable international border and having limitations of staff shortage.
It was informed that about 2265 acre land is being covered under different varieties of Wheat, Fodder, Oilseeds and Pulses during the current Rabi season. It was further informed that foundation and breeder seed of elite and high yielding varieties of wheat, oats, berseem, mustard and pulse crops are being raised and multiplied at the farm for supply to the farmers.
Others who accompanied the Director Agriculture during his visit included Joint Director (Extension), R.K. Hataishi, Joint Director (Farms/SLUB), Mahesh Verma, Farm Manager SM Farm Chinore, Kuldeep Raj, Agriculture Engineer, Brij Rana, besides others.
