DLSA Kathua observes National Legal Services Day- 2023 under the theme “Access to Justice for All”

KATHUA, November 09: As per the Action Plan issued by J&K Legal Services Authority, (JKLSA) for the month of November, 2023 and also under the directions and supervision of Ashok Kumar Shavan, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority Kathua, (also Principal District and Sessions Judge Kathua) National Legal Services Day, 2023 under the theme “Access to Justice for All: Empowering the Marginalized through Legal Awareness” was observed by District Legal Services Authority Kathua today at Ashoka Law College Kathua. 

Chairman, District Legal Services Authority Kathua, (also Principal District and Sessions Judge Kathua) Ashok Kumar Shavan was the Chief Guest of the programme. He explained the historical importance of the day as it marks the anniversary of the enactment of the Legal Services Authorities Act in 1995 and the role of Legal awareness camps, Lok Adalats and several other initiatives of the National Legal Services Authority plays in delivering justice to the poor and marginalized sections of the society.

To make this week-long programme successful, three day  before i.e. on 06.11.2023, a Mobile Van was deployed in District Kathua to raise awareness about the role of Legal Services Institution. The objective of observing the program was to create awareness about the availability of free legal aid and alternative dispute resolution methods. 

Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel Puneet Kumari was the resource person in the said program.

The Resource Person deliberated upon the significance of National Legal Services Day which aims at providing legal relief to the weaker sections of the society.

The welcome address was presented by Dr. Harmesh Sharma, Assistant Professor Ashoka Law College Kathua.

The vote of thanks was presented by Mr. Neeraj Kumar, Assistant Legal Aid Defence Counsel.

The program was attended by students and staff of Ashoka Law College Kathua, Panel Lawyers and Para Legal Volunteers of DLSA, Kathua.
