DCJ-CUK student’s Media Expedition Tour concludes successfully

GANDERBAL, November 23: The Department of Convergent Journalism (DCJ), Centra University of Kashmir (CUK) completed a comprehensive 8-day media tour to Delhi and Chandigarh. The tour provided a unique opportunity for students to gain first-hand experience and insights into the working of prominent national and international news media outlets in Delhi and Chandigarh.

Throughout the duration of the tour started on 13 November, students had the privilege of visiting media establishments such as BBC, NDTV, The Indian Express, Press Information Bureau ( PIB) , Press Trust of India ( PTI) , Indira Gandhi National Open University’s (IGNOU) Gyan Darshan in Delhi and The Tribune, and Daily Post in Chandigarh.

While congratulating media tour students, CUK Vice Chancellor Prof. A. Ravindra Nath said that “this immersive media experience allowed the students to witness the diverse facets of modern journalism, engaging with professionals an observing the intricate processes involved in news production, dissemination, and ethical considerations”. He also said that “this initiative by Centra University of Kashmir reaffirms its commitment in providing holistic and practical education in journalism and media studies. VC underlined that the Central University remains dedicated to foster an environment that nurtures critical thinking in research and professional excellence among its students.

Dean, School of Media Studies Prof. Shahidi Rasool expressed his delight at the enriching experience gained by the students during this tour. He highlighted the significance of such hands-on exposure in shaping the future journalists of our nation and commended the students for their enthusiasm. Dean expressed his hope that with the active participation of students throughout the tour, at least some of them will get employment in national media outlets.

Head, DCJ Dr. Arif Nazir said that the students had an opportunity to visit national media and exposure to various newsrooms, production setups, and editorial processes which are instrumental in broadening their perspectives and understanding of the media industry. He has continuously monitored the tour from Kashmir and extended necessary arrangements.

Senior Assistant Professors Dr. John Babu Koyye and Dr. Nookaraju Bendukurthi who have coordinated the team of 26 students said that “DCJ media team has received a warm welcome by eight media organisations and had an opportunity to engage our students in interactive sessions with Government Officials of PIB in National Media Centre and IGNOU and also
eminent editors and media managers. Students were also actively participated in discussions which allowing them to delve deeper into the evolving landscape of media production houses.
