DC Srinagar reviews implementation of Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) in the District

Works worth Rs.778.0 Cr for upgradation of Distribution Infra, Project Management, Prepaid Smart Metering in progress in different KPDCL Circles of Srinagar

SRINAGAR DECEMBER 07:- In order to review the  progress on implementation of Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme(RDSS) in District, A meeting was held under the Chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner(DC), Srinagar Mohammad Aijaz Asad here at Meeting Hall of the DC Office Complex. 

At the outset, the Deputy Commissioner took a Division wise review about the progress achieved under the RDSS and other measures to reduce AT&C losses. He termed the RDDS a game changer and said that the scheme has been launched with an objective to modernize and augment the power infrastructure by Improving Quality, Reliability & Affordability of power supply to consumers, besides enhancing financial sustainability of Power Distribution Companies (DISCOMS). 

The DC also reviewed the present status with regard to different components of the RDDS Scheme including Metering, Distribution Infra, Project Management and Training, Capacity Building & Other Activities. 

 The DC was informed that about 2.40 lakh consumers including Domestic, Commercial, Industrial, Agriculture, Government Department are registered with PDD in Srinagar District through a connected load of 674.88 MW. 

The DC laid stress on strict adherence to the curtailment schedule, and impressed upon all the officers to ensure that no unscheduled power cuts are undertaken. He also laid emphasis on maintaining strict vigil over feeders which are vulnerable to power pilferage by way of hooking, bypass of meters etc.

While reviewing the progress on implementation of RDDS in Srinagar District, the DC enjoined upon the Officers to further gear up the men and machinery by undertaking different components of the activities in a parallel mode while implementing the RDDS in all the Electric Divisions of the District.

He further laid emphasis that all the ongoing works under the scheme should be completed under the set timelines to achieve the desired objective of scheme for overall betterment of the power scenario.

The DC urged the Officers to ensure proper coordination during conduct of the survey and resolve technical issues, if any, during the survey to avoid any delay. He stressed on conducting surveys in a joint/cooperative manner by all concerned wings of the Department to ensure immediate approval for procurement of the material. 

The DC laid emphasis on reducing AT&C losses so that the expected revenue is generated and power supply is provided as per the expectations of the consumers. He urged to ensure that quality power supply is provided to consumers and also called for responsible behaviour on part of both DISCOMS and Consumers.

The DC further asked the Department to strengthen the IEC activities in order to develop good consumer behaviour so that consumers themselves give up the means of consuming power by hooking etc.

 With regard to Smart metering, the DC was informed that over 70 percent Smart meters have been installed in Srinagar District and the process of installing the remaining is going on.  

Earlier, the DC was apprised about the progress achieved on implementation of RDSS works worth Rs 777.81 Cr in different circles of Srinagar District through a powerpoint presentation.       

Meanwhile, the DC asked the PDD authorities to prepare Division wise snow preparedness plans for Srinagar District for real time restoration of power supply so that people do not suffer. 

 The meeting was attended by Chief Planning Officer Srinagar, Superintending Engineers and Executive Engineers, besides representatives of TKC, PMA and other concerned.
