Uttarvahini: A Glorious Tribute to Padmashri Padma Sachdev held in District Samba

SAMBA, DECEMBER 14: A cultural event, titled “Uttarvahini; A Saga to Celebrate Women”, was held at Bari Brahmana, District Samba.  Yasha Mudgal, the Commissioner/Secretary to Government, Cooperative Department was the chief guest of the occasion.

This event was organised by the District Administration, in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department, to honour Padmashri Padma Sachdev Ji, the first modern woman poet of Dogri language and the daughter of District Samba. The event was part of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign, which aims to promote the education and empowerment of girls and women.

The chief guest Ms. Mudgal felicitated women achievers from various fields in District Samba, who have made significant contributions in the different fields such as sports, education, entrepreneurship etc.

The event commenced with an engaging talk show that highlighted the remarkable life and influential works of Padmashri Padma Sachdev Ji. It was followed by enchanting live performances by local artists, who recited and sang some of the famous poems and songs written by Padma Sachdev Ji. The audience was enthralled by the poignant verses that depicted the rich culture and heritage of Dogri language and literature.

Moreover, a stimulating panel discussion on the topic of “Journey of Empowering Women in Transformational Communities” was held, which focused on the achievements and challenges faced by women in different fields and sectors. The distinguished panelists shared their personal stories and valuable insights on how to overcome obstacles and stereotypes to foster progress and empowerment for women in society.

The event concluded with a spectacular cultural performance by school girls, who displayed their extraordinary talents and skills in diverse art forms. This performance served as a fitting tribute to the indomitable spirit and visionary ideals of Padmashri Padma Sachdev Ji, who relentlessly advocated for the education and empowerment of girls and women through her writings.

Speaking on the occasion, Mudgal stressed that true empowerment is more than just equality. Empowerment means giving women the freedom to make their own choices and pursue their own goals. Padma Sachdev Ji is a shining example of empowerment, as she embodied these principles throughout her life.

The event was attended by eminent dignitaries, artists, writers, students, and media persons.
