One day workshop on Internationalization of Higher Education held at Jammu University
JU has immense potential to emerge as a major center for international students in the Northern India- Prof Manisha Priyam
Jammu, Dec 20-Office for International Affairs and Malviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTC), University of Jammu organized one day workshop on “Internationalization of Higher Education”. Professor Manisha Priyam, Advisor Internationalization of Higher Education initiatives at University of Jammu and Professor of Education Policy at National Institute of Education Planning and Administration (NIEPA), New Delhi was the keynote speaker of the workshop.
In a thought-provoking session, Professor Manisha explored the nuances of Internationalization in higher education, shedding light on its significance and potential impacts. She highlighted that University of Jammu has immense potential to emerge as a major center for international students in the Northern India because of its strategic location and vibrant landscape. During the lecture Professor Manisha highlighted key strategies for effective internationalization including curriculum reorientation, faculty exchange programs and partnership with institutions worldwide.
She further underscored the importance of creating a diverse and inclusive environment that equips students with the skills needed to thrive in an international context. To accomplish this goal of internationalization and increase the footprint of international students, she emphasized the identification of the key areas, where collaborations for international research projects could be taken up. Citing the examples of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, Gopal Krishna Gokhale and Sir M. Visvesvaraya, she urged the University’s faculty members to interact with students on a regular basis and to hone their persuasive abilities in order to raise the educational system to the level of worldwide standards.
Her lecture was followed by a fruitful question and answer session. Professor P.K. Srivastava, Director, Directorate of Distance and Online Education, University of Jammu in his presidential address underlined that thinking should become global citing the examples of 7-8th A.D. when India was the international center of learning, thereby hosting the students and scholars from all over the world.
He further informed that DDOE has already taken initiatives in this regard, where online programs i.e M.A. English and M. Com are open for international students. Earlier, Professor S.K. Pandita, Director MMTC & OIA, in his welcome address talked in detail about various contours of internationalization, and the vision of the university in this regard. Shri Ranjeet Kalra, teaching faculty delivered a formal vote of thanks. The event drew a diverse audience including teaching faculty members and officers of the University to gain a deeper understanding of the evolving paradigms of internationalization.
