2 extortion cases solved within 72 hours; 3 posing as Police personnel held in Jammu

JAMMU, 31 December 2023: 2 extortion cases were solved within 72 hours by PS Bishnah and PS R.S Pura Jammu—meanwhile, 3 accused persons posing as Police personnel were arrested on Sunday.

Information was received through reliable sources that some persons posing themselves as policemen were involved in a snatching incident in broad daylight, from a street hawker (Pheriwala) in Bishnah town, by posing themselves as In-charge Chowki Officer of JK Police, and extorted money from the street hawker, while the duo were in a Maruti Alto car.

Again similar information was received from Dablehar R.S Pura, where an egg seller reported that some unknown persons had extorted ₹2000 rupees from him, along with his mobile phone, by posing themselves as In-charge Chowki Officer of JK Police, while driving an Alto car.

In both the incidents, 2 FIRs were lodged and special teams of both the police stations were constituted. Police teams made strenuous efforts and with the help of various CCTV footage of the areas finally rounded up the 3 accused persons. During questioning, the accused confessed their involvement in the above case and on their disclosure extorted money alongwith vehicle used for the commission of offence was seized.

Those who were arrested identified as Akhil Chopra S/o Prem Chopra, R/o RS Pura, Roshan S/o Bachan lal R/O Sidhrey, R.S Pura and Nitin Kumar S/O Naresh Kumar R/O R.S Pura.
