Kathua: Sellers face Rs 3.39 lakh penalty for peddling misbranded and substandard items
KATHUA, JANUARY 12: Additional District Magistrate (ADM), Kathua Ranjeet Singh, acting as the Adjudicating Officer, imposed Rs 3.39 lakh fine on various Food Business Operators (FBOs), including manufacturers, wholesale dealers and retailers for different violations.
The action was taken following complaint cases and investigations into violations of the Food Safety and Standards Act-2006.
During the proceedings related to cases across different blocks of the Kathua district, the fines were levied on traders found guilty of selling misbranded and substandard items, contravening established regulations.
ADM Ranjeet Singh issued a stern warning to the implicated FBOs, emphasizing the imperative to comply with legal regulations. Non-compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act and its rules by FBOs in the district will face more stringent consequences in the future.
It is noteworthy that the Adjudicating Officer, under the FSS Act-2006, has directed the concerned enforcement agencies to take stringent action against violators. This proactive approach aims to ensure that consumers are provided with wholesome and safe food, reinforcing the commitment to food safety standards within the district.
