DoWP, Wetlands Division Kashmir celebrates ‘World Wetland Day’

SRINAGAR, February 02: On the eve of ‘World Wetland Day’ (WWD), the Department of Wildlife Protection (Wetlands Division Kashmir) today organized a grand function to commemorate the day.

The theme of this year was ‘Wetlands and Human wellbeing’ which underscores the critical role wetlands play in supporting lives and strengthening the health of ecosystem.

This theme was an agreement with principles of AMRIT Dharohar highlighting the benefits of wetlands such as flood protection, clean water, bio-diversity and recreational opportunities. On the occasion, T. Rabi Kumar, Addl. Pr. CCF Kashmir/ Chief Executive Officer, CAMPA was the chief guest.

The function was attended by Rashid Yahya Naqash, Regional Wildlife Warden, Kashmir Region Srinagar, various Forest officers, all Wildlife Wardens of Kashmir Region, Rahi Reyaz vice chairman (NSPWR), Chairperson, Wildlife Research and Conservation foundation, Wildlife SOS, Wildlife Mitras, students of various nearby schools/colleges and various officers and officials of the department.

All the speakers highlighted the importance of conserving our wetlands and efforts in place to restore and manage these wetlands.

Ifshan Dewan, Wildlife Warden, Wetlands Division Kashmir appealed to all the stakeholders especially students to come forward and join hands with the departments for restoration of all wetlands of Kashmir valley.

At the end of the function all participants pledged to use their voices to raise awareness of the great importance of wetlands and increase awareness, education regarding the importance of the Wetland ecosystem for the wellbeing of humans.
