Book Exhibition held at the Dhanvantri Library, Jammu University
JAMMU, January 27: Book Exhibition was held in the Dhanvantri Library on 27th of January 2023. The exhibition was inaugurated at by the Faculty members and Library Professionals of University of Jammu including Prof. Neeru Sharma, I/C Librarian, Prof. Piyush Malviya, Prof. Riyaz, Prof. Samridhi Arora, Dr. Vijay Saigal, Dr. Deepika, Dr. Padam Dev, Dr. Chaman Lal, Dr. Joginder Singh, Dr. Anita Sachar, Dr. Anju Gupta, Dr. Charu Mohan.
The Book Vendors who participated in the exhibition were M/S’s Radha Krishan Anand Book Publishers, Oberoi Book Service Yak Book Channel, Vinod Book Depot, Jay kay Book House, Fair Deal Books, Amazon Infotech Centre, Anand Books Distributor, andQasmi Kutub Khana.The books on display included Reference Books, Encyclopaedias, General Books, Subject Related Books, Compendiums etc. The purpose of holding the Exhibition was to encourage the consultation and usage of Booksamong the scholars and students.
The Book exhibition received a very positive response and was visited by a huge number of Faculty members, Students and Scholars from the Departments of the University of Jammu. Prominent among those who visited the exhibition are Prof. Jasbir Singh, Prof. Sangeeta Gupta, Prof. Samridhi Arora, Prof. Rajeev Rattan, Prof. Arun Sharma, Dr. Meghna Dhar, Dr. Sanya Khan, …..The visitors recommended the Books for the Dhanvantri Library and the Departmental Libraries. Civil Society members also participated in the Exhibition.
The Central Library was named as Dhanvantri Library by the Syndicate and the University Council. The nomenclature was changed to give recognition to the work of Com. Dhanvantri (1902-1953) in the Indian freedom movement, and the socialist cause in India and Jammu and Kashmir, besides his contribution to land reforms in the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Central Library of the University is the hub of Academic activities where scholars and students sit from 8.30 am in the morning till late in the evening till1 1.00 pm, every day throughout the year, except on National Holidays. It is a four-storey building which has spacious reading halls and compact stack areas. The Library has a collection of nearly 4,66,656 volumes of rare as well as latest books.
It has three main reading halls and additional reading areas in the Textbook section, Periodical& Browsing Section, Jammu and Kashmir Section, and Reference Section, besides a reading space for newspapers and magazines. These areas provide reading facilities for about 800 readers. The library provides a lift facility, a dedicated section and ramps for specially-abled persons and in addition to this, the reading areas of the library are centrally air-conditioned for providing a comfortable atmosphere to the library users. The Central Library is fully automated using Integrated Library Management System to carry out its routine operations.
The Central Library is the backbone for the Academic activities of the University and in this context; library is assigned one of the major responsibilities by the University Council to check Plagiarism of the University research output. The library is carrying out this task strictly as per the UGC Regulations.The Central Library of the University is constantly uploading the theses on to Shodhganga as per the UGC Notification.
In addition to this, the library provides access to e-resources from INFLIBNET and also provides remote access to e-resources for the registered library users. The Library also possesses facilities like photocopiers, INFLIBNET resources, Internet facility, Wi-fi access and also uses RFID technology for the convenience of its users.
The Office Staff and the Technical Staff of the Library helped in the organization of the Book Exhibition.
