Udhampur: Grand Mela organised to boost opening of accounts in Post Offices
Banking services have given face to postal department: Vice- Chairperson DDC
UDHAMPUR, January 28: To bolster up opening of regular accounts in Post offices, a grand Mela was today organised at Panchayat Ghar Majalta. Juhi Manhas Pathania, Vice-Chairperson DDC Udhampur was the Chief Guest and inaugurated the Mela.
Addressing the gathering, she said that despite traditional postal services, inland letters and postcards, financial services have held fort for the department. The banking section, especially, has been popular among lower and middle-class people looking at small savings options as well as among those who are not comfortable with mutual funds and the stock market.
The target of the mela was to open one crore accounts throughout the country in a single day.
The Department of Posts has organised this special mela especially for creating a special savings scheme, Sukanya Samriddhi Account (SSA) for girl children aged up to 10 years can be opened. She requested the public to open Sukanya Samriddhi Account by visiting their nearest post office with a copy of birth certificate of the girl child, copy of Aadhaar/PAN and two passport size photographs of the guardian. She deliberated about other services provided by the post offices along with the postal services like life insurances, Aadhaar enabled payment system where one can withdraw money at post offices from their savings account in any bank throughout the country.
Post offices are working in the direction to fulfill the government’s goal of financial inclusion. She appreciated the hard work done by the employees of Indian postal services. She also highlighted the problem of staff shortage in post offices and problem in regular functioning of post offices due to weak internet problems in villages Majalta Tehsil.
She also appealed to the Department to open post offices in villages like S.K. Bair so that people of such villages where banking services are not available can also be benefitted.
Prominent among those who were present included BDC chairperson Majalta, Capt. Dina Nath, Sarpanch Peoni, Raghuveer Singh, Superintendent of Post Division Udhampur Sh.GM Shah, Sub Divisional Inspector Sub Division Udhampur Mahesh Singh.
