NCW hosts “Tu Bol” event in Jammu to celebrate International Women’s Day

Jammu and Kashmir (Jammu) [India], March, 2 (ANI): The National Commission for Women (NCW), in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department, Jammu and Kashmir, on Saturday, organised an event titled “Tu Bol” at the Convention Centre, Jammu, in honour of International Women’s Day. The event aimed to provide a platform for women to share their stories of resilience and success.

Chairperson of the NCW, Rekha Sharma, stressed the importance of women expressing their thoughts and not being silenced by societal pressures. She in her address talked about economic independence in women.

“Women can soar high and make their world. Dont compromise in any situation. I appeal to share your sorrows and if you are speaking the truth then make sure that you stand by it. I also want to say that we must speak on behalf of someone who is not able to raise her voice. I too have done the same in my life. I became a vice for the weaker women,” Rekha Sharma addressed.

Speaking to the media, she said that women today are raising their voices against domestic violence. The women here own properties even if they get married out of the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha was the guest of honour and he highlighted the significant role of women in society and urged for their empowerment and encouragement to speak up.

The programme featured speakers such as Humaira Mushtaq (First Female Indian Car Racer from J&K), Priyanka Negi (Indian Women Kabaddi Player from Himachal Pradesh), Pooja Devi (First Woman Bus Driver in Kathua district, J&K), and Punjabi actress Hashneen Chauhan.

These speakers shared their experiences and encouraged attendees to pursue their aspirations despite obstacles.

The “Tu Bol” event aimed to inspire women to embrace their voices and contribute to societal progress. NCW will be doing a series of these inspirational talks this month to celebrate International Women’s Day honouring women challenging stereotypes with their voices.
